SCSM 2012 R2–First Impressions…

Even though the new features are not clearly stated yet, I thought it would be a good idea to check the SCSM 2012 R2 preview that just came out last week. We will see.

Setup

It starts with regular setup. It requires Framework 3.5 SP1.

Remember that if you are not connected to the web, you will need to point to the installation media to install it. (I wonder why they did that…)

Now, no errors. Pretty familiar:

Ok, the pre-requisites:

Ok, let’s fix that.

After installing all of the pre-reqs, this guy always complains:

I used to restart the server, but realized you can just logoff and log back on:

Well, the remaining screes are related to User experience, Windows update and summary. Pretty much the same.

After a quick review of the console, I couldn’t find anything that was not there before or that had changed. The changes, if any, are likely on deeper level so far.

I would still like to check whether the portal has changed in any way, but considering what I’ve see, I will likely wait for a beta. I have also checked SCOM 2012 R2 and SCORCH. SCOM has a few visible things, but nothing major. Neither does SCORCH. So, will also likely wait for the beta.

Thank you!
